Dear compatriots and friends of Togo,
Togo’s commitment to peace and stability in Africa is known to all. Yesterday as today, these two essential poles of temporality, Togolese diplomacy has worked in favor of peace and continental stability its hobbyhorse. This commitment is rooted in the conviction that peace and stability remain the deep and perpetual aspirations of humankind in an increasingly violent and unstable world.
Faced with new security challenges and the risk of instability, the dynamic cannot be inaction. Togo’s proactivity on peace and security issues not only responds to the imperative to act in times of need, but also falls within the dynamics of initiatives at the continental level for the consolidation of stability and collective resilience. Africa must work for its own stability and Togo is playing its role as an African State.
By launching “Lomé Peace and Security Forum”, the Togolese government, in accordance with the vision of H.E. Mr. Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, President of the Republic, intends to establish a new African framework for exchanges, discussions and sharing of experiences on peace, security and the future of Africa.
The “Lomé Peace and Security Forum” will periodically bring together, among others, representatives of African governments and elsewhere, diplomats, security stakeholders, experts and high-level researchers on peace and security issues, stakeholders from civil society, the media, regional, international and professional organizations and the business community.
At each edition of the Forum, it will be a matter of thinking together in order to jointly build coordinated and relevant solutions to the major challenges relating to peace, security, stability, governance, and development, the future of the continent and to that of the world.
The first edition of the forum, which focuses on the theme “How to strengthen political transitions towards democratic governance in Africa?”, will provide an opportunity for the continent and international stakeholders to develop a new prism of understanding and apprehension of political transitions, taking into account the security context of their emergence and challenges related to the strengthening of democratic governance in Africa.
More concretely, the issues of better approaches to political transitions, the consolidation of democratic governance, peace, the African security system, the rule of law, the construction of solid institutions will be at the heart of the proceedings of the first edition. .
You will find on this site all the useful information on “Lomé Peace and Security Forum”, in particular on the first edition scheduled for October 21 and 22, 2023.
